The Melbourne and Sydney funk ball fundraisers went down in history as some of the most going off Brasilian parties Australia has ever seen. After years exploring other musical tangents Uber Lingua puts on a 100% Brasilian 2 room party.

BAILE DO FUTURO - BRASILIAN STREET SOUND MELTDOWN

Hear the sounds of funk carioca from Rio de Janeiro, Amazonian tecnobrega, North-Eastern forró, manguebeat & Batucada from the Far North, electronic sambass &  drum & bossa, Angolan kuduro & much more...

There's more to Brazilian music than the internationally acclaimed sounds of samba and bossa nova. It doesn't take a carnaval to know that the best music heard there comes from the streets and it is created by DJs and producers that have very little to work with in makeshift studios or wherever they can find. Pop classics are usually remixed with folk rhythms and original beats giving birth to music that echoes through raves in the Amazon region or brings down the walls of the house next door at a favela. And who cares about copyrights when the party is on?!

While funk carioca has become widely popular all over the world thanks to names like Diplo and Daniel Haaksman, the Amazonian "cheesy techno" beats of tecnobrega are still only a very regional phenomenon. If you want to buy it, good luck finding a record label selling it but there are plenty of street vendors out there, often selling CDs of their own music made in some bedroom in Belém. Carimbó with added beats to be played at loud volume... Have you ever heard forró mixed with your house music? Or that manguebeat is the new maracatu?

A galera brasileira tomou conta da cidade!

Featuring DJs: Discotecadélioador (Brasilia), Guido Bambaataa (Rio), DJ Hasin ( São Paulo), bP555 (Uber Lingua), Ennio Styles (RRR), Paz (Troppo Loco)

Artist Bios

Ennio Styles (Triple R)

You might think of him as a jazz, hip hop, drum & bass, disco, afrobeat or even techno DJ. Well maybe, but Ennio Styles has Brasil cred. He hosts Stylin on 3RRR, always looking for the tunes mixing Brasilian sounds with raw club beats. As a producer he has made music in these styles with the likes of Lanu (The Bamboos), A Bossa Eletrica (Raw Fusion) and Grupo Batuque, the latter for Londonís Far Out Recordings, home to Brasilian legends Marcos Valle, Joyce, Azymuth and Arthur Verocai. These tunes have found their way into the record boxes of Gilles Peterson and Laurent Garnier. He has played at the Melbourne Funk Ball parties and alongside samba percussionists, capoeiristas and Sao Paolo drum & bass don DJ Patife. Ennioís Brasilian sets make the connections between samba, bossa, samba reggae, black Rio, batucada, hip hop, drum & bass, house and techno.

DJ Hasin (São Paulo)

Born and raised as a DJ in the electronic music capital of South America, São Paulo, Brazil was for almost 15 years the place where, as a DJ, Vinicius Hasin developed all his roots and influences, which always took his job as a DJ ? and now as a producer ? to a higher level. In the early 90ís, being part of a movement that started to spread around the world, DJ Hasin had his first contact with Acid House, when he saw, in a club, DJs working on the art of mixing music from artists like Shut Up & Dance, New Order, Inner City, Laurent Garnier, among others, which encouraged him to buy his first pair of turntables around 1992. Since then heís been developing his own art, which not only focus on one music style, but different ones that show his Brazilian nationality, a culture of mix and rhythms. This is his best carrier asset: bringing influences from around the world wherever he plays. Tech-house, Deep, Soulfull house, broken beat, drum bass, reggae are just a few examples of DJ Hasinís versatility, always bringing the finest classics and fresh stuff from the worldís music.

Discotecadéliador (Brasília)

Discotecadéliador might hail from the Brazilian capital, Brasília, but he prefers the politics of rhythm. Expect high-tech sounds from the Amazon; muddy beats from the dry Northeast of Brazil and drums from all tribes of the globe. Sexy stuff that you haven't heard but will try to dance to. Favela or chic? It'll take some sweat before you know...

bP555 (Uber Lingua)

With cultural diversity his primary passion, Australian DJ/producer 'bP555' (Brendan Palmer) has been representing the musically 'not so represented' for nearing two decades. He has wandered the world gathering sounds and has performed in places as diverse as Barcelona, Berlin, Dublin, London, Tijuana, Mexico city and Helsinki to name a few...  In 2004 he launched Uber Lingua and his sonic activity has grown exponentially playing literally hundreds of gigs and promoting culturally charged music in most capital cities of Australia. bP's sets traverse language, culture, genre, history and social scenes; deliberately defiant of mainstream music fashions, he presents an intersection of underground and outernational sounds that capture his imagination. Roots to Futurism, East to West, Minimal to Maximal are all sonic stops on bP's translingual express. Brendan additionally works as a producer at the legendary Melbourne radio station Triple R during the day and presents the weekly 'Dialectic' radio program on the web, Radio Adelaide and nationally on the Community Radio Network satellite.

Paz - Holder of M-Box and Serato D/A converters.

Resider of Melbourneís inner North, cycling at 35k/ph, entering a 320 Kbpm to a club limiter at 150bpm.  Hybrid master of cold crushing club rock.  A discosaurus of upfront digital dutty.  Highly arrogant about M.O.S requests, death to sleepers.  A swagger formed from a raodmixin' carnival wine.  A front thatís all macho street charm.  A Nokia N80 with 30 reference mixes on heavy rotation.  A rag that represents the sweaty dance floor, puttin' it in de air.....

Guido Bambaataa (Rio de Janeiro)

Brazilian music enthusiast , fashion entrepreneur and passionate DJ Guido Melo (or Bambaataa as he like to be called now) is one interesting character . Radicated in Melbourne for the past 7 years he has played in several underground Bars and clubs around Town. Member of the Uber Lingua crew and resident of the vivid monthly event BossaBambaataa he is one act you should not miss if you are on the Yarra City.

MC Mars E Pan

"Mars will be Australia's M.I.A".. Joelistics (TZU)

Ya'll might question if this girl handle herself on the mic, well thankfully the answer is Hell yes!  And if there ever was a much needed dose of reality to the testosterone drunk fantasy world of rap, Mc Mars e Pan delivers it.

Sought out by producers local and International for her unique flow and ability to cross genres Mars has worked with Brazil's finest and widely recognized Baile Funk  producer, Edu K on his latest EP, and also on infamous club producer Jamie Fanatic's (Mad Decent) full length club album. Working with assorted producers local and International, Mars is representing Australia on all fronts.

Of Greek/Moroccan decent Mars' multilingual flows (Spanish, Greek and Portuguese and English)  are mashed into various flavoursome music genres, amongst them, Baile Funk, Dancehall, Kuduro, Electro and straight up Hip hop.  Her varied cultural background and global travels gives her the stylistic versatility not only to pull this off, but significantly contribute to the acceptance of a new school era of Electro Hip-hop to come out of Australia.

MC Aldison Jnr (Rio de Janeiro)

MC Aldison Jnr straight from Rio de Janeiro drops Portuguese chants and baile raps like no other in this city. A semi-profession football player (soccer) by trade, he releases equal energy on the mic.

Beebop Samba dancers

Beebop Samba dancers shimmy and shake in a flurry of hot colour, feathers and sequins! A mix of Samba Reggae dance moves, fast footwork and booty shaking in beautiful Rio-style costumes. Fast-paced and sexy!

Capoeira & Batucada

VJ Siadatz

Dom Rhys aka VJ Siadatz, longtime Uber Lingua resident VJ, subtly weaves together a mixture of his own abstract film and animation together with sampled images and video of the global subculture vibe. The result is a blend of graphics, forms, textures and people as agitprop for the trans-cultural non-local imagination nation.

Sampled images and videos are selected to show a cross-section of earth's art, music and dance, from street level buskers to traditional grand scale theatrics. These are then threaded together to provide a sense of cultural montage rarely seen in popular media. Performing alongside DJs and MCs, live mixes and cuts juxtapose one culture against another, adding to the sense of fusion and overlap. This is then framed within Siadatz's unique original work, dealing with gritty urban abstraction, street culture and neo-futurama, creating a integrated whole, and tying it back into DIY grassroots klub kultcha.

Argentinean Asado BBQ

The Australasian Argentinean BBQ Association, has the mission of providing opportunities for cultural exchange between Latin America and Australasia.

One of the best ways to bring people together, is cooking and eating. Our barbeques are a vehicle, we promise yummy charcoal cooked chorizos, beef ribs and plenty of chimichurry. Experience the ultimate finger licking meat delight and dance your night away!
